Bastivo AI Assessment Methodology & Disclaimer
Last Updated: October 9, 2026
1. Purpose of This Document
This page explains, at a level appropriate for public disclosure, how the Bastivo AI Assessment (the "Assessment") works, what its results mean, and what its limitations are. It should be read together with our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. This document does not disclose Bastivo's proprietary scoring weights, formulas, thresholds, prompts, or other protected methodology.
The Assessment is an educational, decision-support tool. It is not professional advice, does not determine regulatory eligibility, and does not guarantee suitability, savings, availability, compliance, financial outcome, or acceptance by any Provider or regulator.
2. How the Assessment Works: AI and Deterministic Scoring
2.1 What AI Does
Bastivo may use artificial intelligence to write plain-language explanations of your calculated results. Where an explanation is AI-generated, your report labels it as such; otherwise explanations come from fixed Bastivo templates. The current version of the Assessment does not use AI to interpret free-text descriptions. AI does not calculate or modify your scores, and it does not determine a Provider's verification status, listing eligibility, review status or ranking. Where a Provider Profile displays an AI-generated summary, that summary is produced from structured profile data and is separately labeled as AI-generated.
2.2 What AI Does Not Do
The scores underlying your Assessment result are calculated by deterministic, code-based scoring logic, not by artificial intelligence. AI does not calculate or modify your scores, and it does not determine a Provider's verification status, listing eligibility, review status, profile ownership, or ranking. In short: where AI is used, it explains; Bastivo's scoring logic calculates.
2.3 What the Assessment Measures
The Assessment produces six separate Fit Scores, one for each of six named risk-financing or insurance-related approaches (a single-parent captive, a group captive, a protected cell arrangement, a rent-a-captive arrangement, an increased-retention program, and a conventional insurance approach). Each Fit Score is expressed on a 0–100 scale and reflects how closely the information you provide aligns with Bastivo's methodology for that approach; scores are also grouped into descriptive bands (for example, Strong, Moderate, Limited, or Low alignment) to aid readability. Fit Scores are calculated by Bastivo's deterministic scoring logic; artificial intelligence plays no role in calculating or adjusting a Fit Score.
Each of the six approaches also receives its own Evidence Confidence level of Low, Medium, or High, reflecting how well the information you provided is corroborated — not the likelihood that the approach will succeed for you. Evidence Confidence is calculated separately from, and does not change, the arithmetic Fit Score, and artificial intelligence plays no role in determining it. Where information needed to score a particular approach is missing or marked "Not Sure," that approach is shown as needing more information rather than being scored as if the missing information were favorable or unfavorable.
Fit Scores and Evidence Confidence levels are a preference-and-preparation index reflecting Bastivo's own methodology. They are not a probability of success, a financial-suitability determination, or a prediction of savings, availability, or regulatory outcome. Bastivo does not publicly disclose the underlying weights, formulas, factor-point contributions, or numerical thresholds used to calculate a Fit Score or an Evidence Confidence level.
2.4 Domicile-Related Content
The current version of the Assessment does not screen or compare domiciles for your organisation. Bastivo's separate domicile guides describe publicly available rules for individual jurisdictions. They are general information, not an assessment of where your organisation could or should form a captive.
3. Information We Ask For
The Assessment asks about matters such as your company's general profile, the coverage or risk area you are exploring, your current insurance or risk-financing arrangement, relevant loss history, and your objectives and planning considerations. You answer the structured questions directly. Optional text fields are stored with your assessment; they are not interpreted by AI and do not affect your Fit Scores. Your results depend materially on the information you supply, including its completeness and accuracy, and on the assumptions built into Bastivo's methodology; missing or uncertain answers are preserved as such and are not replaced with an assumed value for the purpose of calculating your score.
4. Preliminary and Full Results
A Preliminary Report is available without creating an account or providing an email address. It presents your highest-scoring complete, unconstrained result, together with that result's Fit Score and Evidence Confidence level, key qualitative reasons, and material caveats. A Full Report, covering the complete set of six outcome results and additional qualitative detail, is available once you provide an email address or otherwise register. Unlocking the Full Report does not rescore your Assessment or change your underlying Fit Scores or Evidence Confidence levels — it makes already-calculated information available to you. Weights, formulas, factor-point contributions, contribution tables, and numerical sensitivity are never disclosed at either tier. Results are based on the information available at the time of scoring; if you update your answers, Bastivo will recalculate and present a new, linked result rather than altering the original one.
5. Assessment Status and Report Access
An Assessment you start progresses through one of several statuses: Draft (started but not yet submitted), In Progress (submitted, being scored), Completed (scored, with a report available), Failed (scoring could not complete, for example due to a technical error), Expired (a Draft or an anonymous session that lapsed before completion), Superseded (an earlier version replaced by a later recalculation after you edited your inputs), or Archived (retained for the historical record but no longer your active report).
An Assessment's status of "Expired" is a separate concept from the expiry of an anonymous Full Report access link. Where Bastivo emails you a link to an anonymous Full Report, that link expires 7 days after it is issued; Bastivo does not use non-expiring anonymous Full Report links. A link expiring in this way does not change your Assessment's own status and does not affect a report you have accessed by registering or signing in.
6. Human Follow-Up and the Independent Qualified Reviewer
Where the Platform allows you to request further assistance — for example, by asking Bastivo for help or by requesting an introduction to a specific Provider — that follow-up does not convert your Assessment into legal, insurance, tax, actuarial, or other regulated professional advice, and it does not imply that a licensed professional has reviewed or approved your specific result.
An Evidence Confidence level of High requires, among other things, that an independent qualified reviewer has recorded a review of the evidence supporting that outcome. This is a Bastivo product acceptance step limited to evidence quality and corroboration for the Evidence Confidence label; it is not a licensing credential, and the reviewer is not part of a standing professional review board.
The independent qualified reviewer's evaluation does not provide legal, insurance, tax, or actuarial advice, does not certify legal eligibility, insurance suitability, or actuarial correctness, does not guarantee suitability of any approach, and does not approve your risk-financing program. It evaluates only the quality and consistency of the supporting information you or a Provider have supplied for purposes of the Evidence Confidence label described in Section 2.3.
7. Limitations
-
AI-generated narrative explanations may contain errors or incomplete interpretations and should be read together with the structured result, not as a substitute for it.
-
Your results depend on the accuracy and completeness of the information you provide; incomplete or inaccurate input will produce a less reliable result.
-
Markets, regulations, and Provider offerings change over time, and a result generated on one date may not reflect current circumstances.
-
Independent professional verification is recommended before you rely on a result to make a legal, insurance, tax, actuarial, regulatory, funding, or risk-financing decision.
8. AI Service Providers
Bastivo's AI functionality is built on an architecture that supports more than one AI service provider. Only the provider or providers actually enabled to process production Assessment data at a given time act as Bastivo's AI processor for that purpose; the existence of a supported technical integration with a given provider does not by itself mean that provider is processing your data. Bastivo does not use your Assessment content to train Bastivo's own models.
Your Assessment content must not be used by a third-party AI provider for that provider's own model training or model improvement, unless such use has been explicitly approved under Bastivo's privacy configuration and any required separate consent or other applicable legal basis has been satisfied. This is not part of Bastivo's ordinary current use of third-party AI providers. See our Privacy Policy for further detail.
9. Ownership of Assessment Output
You retain rights in the information you submit to the Assessment. Bastivo retains ownership of the Platform, its scoring logic, methodology, taxonomies, templates, structured data, and proprietary decision framework. Subject to any applicable third-party AI provider terms, you may use the Assessment narrative and other output generated for you for your own internal business purposes. Receiving an Assessment result does not transfer to you any ownership interest in Bastivo's underlying methodology or scoring framework.
10. Professional Advice
Bastivo provides educational comparisons based on the information you confirm and a versioned scoring model. Fit scores measure alignment with stated preferences and preparation, not probability of success, financial savings, or regulatory eligibility. Results do not constitute insurance, legal, tax, or actuarial advice. Verify program, funding, and legal requirements with appropriately qualified advisers before acting.
Bastivo does not provide captive management, actuarial certification, or formation services itself, and does not compare or recommend specific insurance policies, insurer offers, premiums, limits, or exclusions, and does not quote, bind, negotiate, or conclude insurance contracts.
